Suitability of your roof

To achieve the maximum output of the system your roof must be large enough to accommodate the 2.8 kw system, be facing nominally south and have a roof slope between 22˚ and 45˚ with no shading from dormer windows or adjacent buildings, chimneys and trees.

Cost savings:

The standard 12 panel 2.8KW system will produce around 2,450 KWh or units of electricity each year which you can use for free and will therefore reduce the amount of electricity you will purchase from your existing supplier.

Assuming a cost of around 13p/unit it could be worth around £320 per year if you use all the electricity generated and it will typically reduce your electricity bill by a third, depending on how and when you use electricity.

Both the panels and the inverter have no moving parts and will operate silently for many years with no maintenance. Inverters are usually sited within your loft space and the panels are fixed to your roof with a rugged fixing system that is secured under your existing tiles or slates. Installation will require scaffolding to the south facing elevation of your home and is usually completed in only one day.

Measured Output:

To measure the output of the solar panels a generation meter will be fitted next to the inverter which will automatically send the meter readings over a mobile phone network.This system also allows remote monitoring of your system and a maintenance visit can be arranged in the unlikely event that a problem occurs.

The 2.8kw system is installed on your roof absolutely free in return for the scheme receiving the Governments Feed in Tariff payments over the following 25 years. These payments will be made directly to the scheme agent.

You will not have to change your electricity provider or prevent you from switching in the future. The system will be maintained and insured independently of your own household insurance arrangements. (For further information on Feed please see our main PV pages)

The electricity generated by the solar PV system is free for use in your home in return of the lease of your roof for the duration of the feed in tariff period. At the end of the lease the panels will become your property and will continue to provide you with free electricity through the typical 35-40 year system life.
